Chuck > The beach here was strewn with what must have been millions of tiny shells such as these.
Chuck > Sunset as seen from Communiversity Park, a small park maintained by the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The other side of the bay can just be made out in the distance.

Chuck > Eagle Bluff Lighthouse in Peninsula State Park, on the Green Bay side of Door County. The Lake Michigan side of Door County is still relatively undeveloped; all the nice little resort towns are on the Green Bay side.
Chuck > In the background of this picture one can just barely see the ferry heading off to Washington Island--in the foreground are cars waiting for passage. It was a bit too hazy to see Washington Island when I was here, but apparently it can be seen on clear days.
Chuck > This is at the tip of the Door County peninsula--the passage between here and Washington Island, which the ferry here crosses, was named Port des Mortes by early French explorers (possibly taken from the Native American name)--Death's Door, due to the treacherous nature of the waters, and it is for this that Door County is named.

One legend associated with the name is here.
Chuck > Cave Point County Park, adjacent to Whitefish Dunes State Park, features these rock formations on the lakeshore. They are part of the Niagara Escarpment, a prominent geological feature in the Great Lakes region.
