Chuck > Waiting to cross the Mackinac Bridge by car. Even though the walk was over by this point, and all lanes were open to traffic, it took me over an hour to cross the bridge by car, including the time waiting in traffic. It had only taken two hours to cross the bridge on foot!
Chuck > Past the south tower.
Chuck > The middle two lanes of the four-lane bridge are grates, which reduce the effect of wind on the bridge. During the walk, you can look down through the grating and see the lake far below.
Chuck > Now past the halfway point. The bridge is nearly 200 feet above the water at its center, but the grade is so gentle that you hardly even notice you're walking uphill for the first half of the walk.

Chuck > Nearing the north tower.
Chuck > At the start of the suspended part of the bridge. I've already walked about a mile and a half on the bridge just to get to this point.
Chuck > School buses, as seen on the right, return walkers to their starting point (for those who parked in St. Ignace on the Upper Peninsula), or take walkers to the starting point of the walk (if they parked in Mackinaw City on the Lower Peninsula).
