Chuck > The Dead River runs through the park.  It is so named, not for a lack of life--quite the opposite--but because most of the time the river is still, ending only a few hundred feet short of Lake Michigan.  It empties into the lake only with rains or melting snow.
Chuck > Illinois Beach State Park.  With the highly-developed Gary-Chicago-Milwaukee corridor, it may surprise you to learn that there is undeveloped land on the Illinois shore of Lake Michigan, but here it is.
