Chuck > Air at Wilbur Wright birthplace [3/27/2004]

On March 27, 2004, Frank Omana, Z '91 (shown here), and Chuck Carroll, Z '90, visited the Wilbur Wright birthplace in Millville, a small town in east central Indiana, along with Air. (Get it? Air at the Wilbur Wright birthplace?)

Wilbur Wright was born here on April 16, 1867, as noted by the sign Chuck is standing next to. Wilbur's younger brother Orville was born a few years later after the family had moved to Dayton, OH.

There's also a replica of the house the Wright family lived in here (the original burned decades ago). Here is Air on the back steps. (The front of the house has an ADA-compliant, but anachronistic, wheelchair ramp. Thus the picture from the back.)

No Air in this picture; just a close-up of the replica.

The museum was virtually empty when we visited, so it was easy to get pictures. There was, however, a field out back where several remote control plane enthusiasts were, appropriately, practicing their craft.

The Wrights made four flights (two each) in their plane on December 17, 1903. Markers at the museum commemorate all four flights; here is Air with the first.

The museum also features a full-size replica of the Wrights' plane.

In the back corner of a small theater in the museum hangs a small replica of the Wright Flyer, shown here with Air.
